What a Life

19.Unwanted Silence

Medicine is about teamwork.

Without teamwork we are all failures.

The aim of medicine is to prevent disease and prolong life,

the ideal of medicine is to eliminate the need for a physician.

William j. Mayo

The screams of a baby,

The sobbing of a woman,

The crying of a man,

The mysterious anaesthetist,

The beeping of the monitors,

The knife of the surgeon,

The red liquid drips to the floor,

The life of a human is desperately poised,

The outcome is uncertain.

The tears of the family,

The reassurance of the nurse,

The dark truth from the doctor,

The red fluid has stopped dripping,

The drugs are on maximum,

The beeping of the electrocardiogram,

The whoosh of the life support machine,

The whizzing of the dialysis apparatus,

The outcome is bleak.

The tearful silence of the family,

The nurses comfort them,

The drawn and sad face of the doctor,

The cold mottled skin of the patient,

The silence of the electrocardiogram,

The multiple attempts at resuscitation,

The jumping up and down on the chest,

The life no longer prevails,

The life has gone.

Goodbyes are only for those who love with eyes.

Because for those who love with heart and soul

there is no such thing as separation.
